Bariatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the causes, prevention, and treatment of obesity, or people who are obese. In the medical field bariatrics encompasses dieting, exercise and behavioral therapy approaches to weight loss, as well as pharmacotherapy and surgery. However outside the medical field bariatrics is concerned with making life for those persons with problems of obesity more tolerable and manageable. This can involve, for example, special equipment used to help lift and transport obese people or, as in the case of the Bariatrics Shop, the supply of specially designed clothing for making day to day life more comfortable and bearable for obese people. To our minds the word “obese” has unfortunate overtones engendered mostly by the Press and, therefore, we tend to interchange it with the word “bariatric” because bariatric is a recognised medical term.
So where does the Bariatric Shop come from, Our “mother” business is called the Big Bloomers company, a business founded some 4 years ago by a mother and daughter based in Cornwall in the United Kingdom. The Big Bloomers Company was originally founded with the idea of making knickers and panties for large people, but not necessarily obese or bariatric people. However as we got into the business we discovered that there are more and more people who might be well overweight and edging on being obese, but with no products on the market to cater for their bariatric needs. So we decided to cater for bariatric people, or obese people of very large or plus sizes, and to not only supply them with knickers, but also with other products to make their lives more comfortable. And that is how the Bariatric Shop was born in November 2010.
Our Freesize35 range caters for bariatric people who weigh 190 kilo (30 stones) and more, or for obese people looking for plus sizes. Our supersize bariatric knickers have hip sizes that stretch from 215cm to 265 cm (or from 85inches to 105inches), whilst our bariatric tights go up to 225cm (or 100inches) across the hips. We have worked with obese people suffering from a range of complaints which cause weight gain such as diabetes, lymphodemia and other problems to bring you the Freesize35 range of bariatric garments which we will be adding to in the coming months.
Currently our range of products for obese people is small, as we are still feeling our way into the bariatric market, but we know from our researches that the need for bariatric clothing is becoming more and more urgent. And apart from bariatric knickers and panties the Bariatric Shop can supply bariatric tights, dressing gowns and “loungers”, all of which will comfortably fit obese people of the sizes we aim to cater for.
At the Bariatric Shop we are aware of the needs of both our potential bariatric customers and their carers. We fully appreciate the close relationship between obese people and their carers, therefore, we take that into account in deciding upon new bariatric products.
We are equally aware of the fact that for some obese people stomach stapling or banding is a medical solution to their bariatric condition and the disposable hospital gowns are ideal for this difficult time in their lives. Thereare two in the pack along with two pairs of disposable panties. If you require more panties, we sell them in packs of 10.
